A1.
You can fly in Spain for up to 24 months on your UK license. You will need to provide notarized copies of your license, current medical, and passport.
You will need to take a check flight with an instructor to prove your competence, and the aircraft owner would almost certainly want to fly a couple of circuits with you as well.
One thing though, you MAY have difficulty finding an owner that would be willing to rent the aircraft to you solo. If you spend a lot of time here it would be worth just getting the Spanish license.

A2.
Get the Spanish license.
You will need a Spanish class 2 medical, notarized copies of the medical, your English license, and passport or DNI
You will need to pass a checkflight with an instructor.
A3.
You will need to revalidate your UK PPL. This can be done here, in
English. You need a current class 2 medical, a Spanish one is fine.
You will need to pass a skills test of a minimum of 1.5 hours with an
examiner who will revalidate your licence. We have an examiner available
here. you will have to pay the examiner fee and the aircraft rental.
If your license has lapsed by 5 years or more then you will have to apply to
the CAA for re-issue. We can help with this as well.

Same as PPL, but Spanish class 2 medical mandatory. Or get a microlight rating on your NPPL, which you can do here, and convert.

A7.
If you ever had a license it can be revalidated and converted, since my last article I have flown with guys who haven’t been up for 30 years. Bit rusty and some brushing up needed sure, but that´s all, it really is like riding a bike. Come for a quick spin and see !

A8.
If you pass the medical then you can fly. Over 70 and you need to repeat parts of the medical every six months, but that’s all.
ABOUT THE MEDICAL:
The initial medical is the biggest hassle, renewals much less so as you are in the system. You need a class 2 medical for everything. Now the rules say that a UK class 2 is OK in the case of the PPL conversion, but we have`t actually put it to the test yet – guinea pigs welcome!!
However, if you live here, it may be worth just biting the bullet and getting the Spanish one anyway.
Initially you will need to go to Alicante, to two places, on two separate days. One for a blood analysis, and the other to collect the results of the analysis and do the medical.
The total cost is 162€.
I can make the appointments, take people, and translate, last time we got 5 guys together and block booked on two separate days and got everything done and dusted in the mornings. This worked well, so if anyone is interested give me a call.
It sounds a mountain, but it`s not so bad, and once it´s done it´s done, and the rest is in the cockpit having fun!
